Hudson arrived at PACC last month as a stray with his best buddy. His buddy was adopted, and Hudson would really love to find his new home as soon as possible. He is a strong guy, so someone who can handle him and having some GSD experience is always helpful. He was social and interested in other dogs in play group, but was at times mounty, so an intro with a potential doggy pal would be ideal. This guy loves people and we also think he’d make a great new friend for another calm dog. He toys and cuddling on the couch. He’s just a really nice dog. He is available to adopt or foster.

Come in today from 11am to 3pm to meet him or message us through our Facebook page or email bonnyharristrn@gmail.com for more information!

Magnolia recently arrived as a stray to the shelter. She has a younger male kennelmate at PACC, and her play group evaluation says she preferred the people to the dogs in the yard. She tolerated dogs who would approach her, but overall was pretty nervous. She’d love to find a nice quiet place to call home, maybe with a polite furry pal would be ok, too. She’s a very friendly and enthusiastic girl. She is nervous when she first meets you, and walks are a bit scary—it’s a great big world out there! She likes to cuddle and is just a really nice temperament. She is available to adopt or foster.

Theo is a big guy who takes a bit to warm up to new doggy friends. Once he does, he can be quite playful, and might be a bit much for more timid dogs. He is learning how to walk politely on a leash and would really love to get out of the shelter and spend his holidays in a warm loving home. He’s new to us, so as we learn more about him, we will update his info. He is available to adopt or foster.

Lucky arrived at the shelter a while back itchy and feeling pretty yucky. It may just have been the luckiest day of his life, because the clinic has been working hard to get his allergies under control so he can be the happy funny guy he is. He is quite the snuggler, we hear, and enjoys playing. He seems unconcerned about other dogs around him, so he’d do well as either an only or maybe with a friendly new pal. He’d like to meet them before he agrees to make it a lifelong thing, please and thank you. He is available to adopt or foster.

Buckeye is a sweet little old lady who is in the twilight of life. Through no fault of her own, she has found herself at the shelter and is pretty confused as to how she landed there. We’d love to see her find her way into a nice cozy home with a comfy dog bed to spend her remaining days. She’s understandably pretty nervous about being in the shelter and really needs someone who can be patient and kind with her as she learns that she is safe and cared for. Ted arrived at the shelter and is kenneled with his buddy. Shelter staff say he was easy to handle during his admissions process and that overall he seems like a pretty chill guy who quickly warms up to new people. Ted is a bit smaller than his best buddy Conrad, but they really rely on one another and just enjoy being together. He’s got a winning smile and his eyes will make you melt. He is a mellow guy who seems to just roll with whatever live sends his way. He is available to adopt or foster.

Zinnia’s foster is one of the greatest people on this planet, so we’ve left her fabulous write-up as is, because well—it’s just great and captures so much of this vibrant little gal (the dog, not the foster, but we love her, too!)

Zinnia came to PACC as a stray on 10/20/23 and was hospitalized on IV fluids until 11/2 when she went to foster. This is what we have learned about her in foster over the last month:

Lives with little and big dogs- does great!
Lives with cats and tiny kittens- does great!
Crate trained BUT may have the occasional accident in her crate due to the meds she is on.
Still working on house training, she’s still a baby and is on meds that cause her to pee more often than “normal”.
Does great in the car, just sleeps
Does great on leash, a little slow but I mean look at her

Yes Please:
Loves to go outside and help feed the animals
Loves to watch the other dogs play fetch
Loves face rubs and head snuggles
Loves artificial turf to roll on
Loves plush Cat Toys, prefers them over dog toys. I don’t know why.

Please No:
Does NOT like dogs approaching her kennel when locked up (tad barrier reactive/vulnerable)
Does NOT like puppies jumping on her when she is sleeping (duh)
Does NOT like feeling she has to share her food with other animals (also, duh)
Zinni corrects APPROPRIATLY with a growl and has not ever been pushed to a snapping point. (We remove the threat, deescalate and distract)

Zinnia vs Valley Fever
Her VF has caused lesions on her skin, bones and joints. She is painful and aching but is still a happy puppy and LOVES humans. The VF when untreated took away all of her nutrients and started eating away her muscle and any fat she had. She is on Carprofen and Gabapentin for pain management, she is on Simplicef as an antibiotic for her skin lesions, and is on Terbinafine and Fluconazole for antifungal medications. It takes about 4-6 weeks for the antifungal meds to start really working magic so as of now, they are just starting to work for her. Between the meds and the VF itself, she can be a picky eater and may have a hard time wanting to eat. As of this week, she is only taking her meds in PBJ sandwiches (homemade) but last week she preferred Cream Cheese and Bagel for her meds. As of right now she loves chicken and rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner (warmed, chicken from a can and 5 min white rice because foster mom has no idea how to cook). She also LOVES dog treats and dog bones to snack on whenever. Valley Fever and Rainy weather does NOT mix. VF is a fungal infection and it thrives in moist hot environments, so of course the disease can cause a VF dog to have “bad days” when it is raining or extra moist in the air. She sometimes reacts to the rain by not eating or sleeping extra, but sometimes the rain doesn’t seem to bother her at all. As she gets better and heals, the disease will get weak and won’t bother her so much.

It may not be curable BUT it is treatable.

She is available to adopt or foster. She will be with us both Saturday and Sunday (12/2 & 3).

Wyatt is an older guy who hasn’t been at the shelter long; he arrived as a stray, so there isn’t much known about him yet. He was able to be fast-tracked during his admissions process because he was very calm, sweet and friendly and was overall easy to handle. This little old lady arrived at the shelter in November with some significant injuries. Thanks to the love and care of the clinic staff and volunteers, she is recovering and is hoping to find her forever home before the holidays arrive. She is said to be easy-going and walks well on leash. Due to her injuries, she was not evaluated in a doggy play group. She is brand new to us, so if she hangs around long enough, we will update her info. She is available to adopt or foster.

Kayla is a cute little gal with almost no teeth, which really just makes her even more cute! She is needing some surgery, in addition to her spay, which PACC’s clinic will be doing in the near future. She’d love to find a nice quiet place to await and then recuperate from her surgery, and the sooner the better she says, cuz the shelter is kinda scary when you’re so little. Pa preferred the people to the dogs during his play group evaluation. He might do best as an only dog, where he can soak up all the love for himself. For a doggy pal, he’d like a quiet/unassertive dog whom he’d really like to meet before he gives an enthusiastic paw’s up. He loves to snuggle and really enjoys playing with toys, gently finding the squeaker without tearing the toy apart. He seems to be a pretty adaptable guy, and we recommend a secure yard, as he is a problem solver who likes to figure out how things like a gate works. He is available to adopt or foster.

Fletcher is a fun, active young senior who is looking for his forever home. He has been at PACC for a while, and it’s amazing that he is still such a happy guy. He’d like to meet any possible roommates, before he gives his pawprint of approval, please. He loves toys, walks (does awesome with a harness!), and lots of cuddle time with his favorite people. He’s super smart and in addition to sit, he knows paw/shake, “off,” “gentle” when taking treats and he rides great in a vehicle—crated or not. He also enjoys his down time and takes great naps, either with you or on his own. He is available to adopt or foster.

Sapphire is back at PACC after a rejuvenating stay in a short-term foster home. She is one seriously happy girl and doesn’t let the fact that she has health challenges deter her one little bit from enjoying life! She is putting on some weight and is all smiles. Her foster tells us she is just always happy. While in foster care, she met kids between 5-8 years old and other dogs and did great with them all. She has some medical stuff going on that the shelter’s clinic is working on and she is looking for a comfy place to lay her sweet head where she feels safe and is well-loved. Her tail wags when you give her your attention, letting you know how happy she is to be with you, and when you give her the belly rubs she loves—she’ll be your friend for life! Xena found herself at the shelter and would love to find a calm loving home to lay her sweet head. She’s severely overweight, but she is on meds and should start both feeling better and shedding those pounds very soon. She’s not a big walker due to the excessive weight she is carrying, so a nice cool place to snooze away her days until she starts to feel more like her young self would be ideal. She is a very nice girl who appreciates the kindness shown to her. She relaxed and decided belly rubs are great, and gentle brushing feels pretty darn good, too. She takes treats nicely and walks slowly, but well, on her leash.

Xyla has gone to foster! We are hopeful she has left shelter life behind her for forever, so we’ll have to wait and see how the next little bit goes. We’re kind of shocked that after arriving as a stray, no one came for this lovely girl. She is super friendly, loves to meet new people who quickly become her new best friends. She’s just a wonderful girl.

Her new fosters met her today and quickly saw her many great attributes, and after a nice walk to see how great she is on leash, they went off to discuss. They were back pretty quickly and we did the paperwork and she was on her way. We hope this is the beginning of her happily ever after.

Personally, I am going to miss the adorable little nub of her wiggly butt when she’s happy, excited for a walk, looking for treats, pretty much all the time!

Haysworth has had a bit of an unstable past, so arriving at PACC was probably one of the best things that could have happened for this guy. He is learning how great it is to be in a safe place, get his meals and have water and shelter available every day. But he deserves a whole lot more than that, and we’re going to help him find his forever home so that he can finally become a valued member of his family and enjoy all that life has to offer. Shelter volunteers report that he is a super friendly guy, walks wonderfully on leash, is respectful in the home he visited on a day pass, and didn’t have any potty accidents while he was there. He loves meeting new friends and has discovered toys and chewy things in his kennel. He is available to adopt or foster.

Thunder was a bit nervous with other dogs in his recent doggy play group evaluation at PACC, and appropriately corrected them when he needed some space. He’s definitely underweight for such a tall guy, so he needs someone who is going to help him to put on the pounds slowly with some good groceries. He enjoys his walks and does great on his leash. He is a giant cuddler and would love to spend the day snoozing at your feet or on the couch next to you, he’s flexible like that! He also enjoys being brushed and waits patiently while his person grooms him. If you are petting him and you get distracted—not to worry! He will gently remind you with a nudge of his big head or a paw on your hand or shoulder that he would love some more of your time and attention. He is available to adopt or foster.

Regina and her daughter Becky arrived at the shelter together, and happily shared their kennel. Becky has been adopted, so Regina is looking for her new home. She is a very playful gal and probably wouldn’t mind an equally active doggy pal, although we suspect she also wouldn’t mind soaking up all the attention and love for herself if she was a solo dog. She adores toys, especially ones she can chew on, and she walks nicely with a harness and is getting a lot better with just a leash. Weaver is a playful guy with both people and friendly dogs alike. During his stay at PACC, he has had multiple kennelmates, so he’d love to meet a new dog pal to see if they hit it off. Chikita has had a bumpy past and would really love to find a stable forever home. She was fast-tracked in admissions at the shelter, meaning she was easy to handle when she first arrived. In play group, she was nervous with the other dogs. She is a very lowkey gal who really enjoys her walks and being outside. She has the cutest little prance as she walks around the mall! She’d like us to request that her foster or adopter really needs to provide a big fluffy bed because she LOVES the one in her kennel with us. She is very polite and gentle with treats. • Jet–Neutered Male

• Rocket–Spayed Female

• 23 pounds each

• 3 years old

Jet and Rocket are two seriously fun smaller dogs! After a brief adoption to two friends who lived in different homes, we’ve learned Rocket isn’t a fan of big dogs–she appears to be fearful of them, and Jet didn’t do well as an only dog. He howled during his week break from the shelter while he was an only dog.

During their separation, they discovered they prefer to stay together and are no longer bickering. As a result, we are recommending that they find their forever TOGETHER. They are looking for a foster who will help them learn how to be indoor dogs, or an adopter committed to giving them the time they need. Keep in mind, these dogs are three years old, but they are basically like puppies because they lived outside their entire first three years of life. So housetraining, crate training (which would dramatically help with housetraining), learning to chew on appropriate doggy-safe toys and not people stuff, etc. are all things that they need to learn. They are off to a solid start, they just need a patient adopter or foster who will help them to become the very best pups.

Come in today from 11am to 3pm to meet them or message us through our Facebook page or email info@tucsonrescuenow.org for more information!

Madeleine is currently in a foster home, and has lived with another foster dog. At the shelter in her doggy play group evaluation, she mostly kept to herself and was very sweet with the handlers. When she first arrived at her foster’s home, she was itchy and her coat wasn’t in great shape. But with time, some oatmeal baths and good quality food, she has completely turned around and she is looking like a whole new girl! She is a very friendly pup who really enjoys making new friends, eating yummy treats and loves her walks! She also enjoys cuddling with her favorite people on the couch and taking naps. She’s made a new furry friend, so with time and consistency in her environment, she might enjoy having a pal.

Tootsie has been in foster for a bit and she just adores the teen female in the home and sleeps by her every night. She loves getting to be a regular dog again after weeks in the shelter. She loves her food and treats, and walks pretty well on a leash for being a bigger girl. She has a beautiful seal coat and a terrific smile. Promise is a big guy who is currently in foster, and this is what they have to share about him:

Summary:
Calm, gentle, shy and takes a bit of time to warm up (took about a week for him to warm up to his foster). Once he trusts, he loves. He is also a loyal friend. He attended the Dog of the Day event at PACC and cried when he recognized his former housemate/friend at the shelter. He seems to also be in tune with human emotions and could be a great companion/support/therapy dog with proper training.

Rides well in car. Hops in and out easily. Likes to bury his treasures. Likes to play fetch and tuck of war. Loves walks and gets excited when a leash is insight. Walks well and listens, makes eye contact, often stays close to his walker. Kids friendly (easily leashed, walked, hugged by an 11-year old). Likely dogs friendly also. We are doing a very slow introduction and Promise has been housed separately from other pets. Promise does not react or respond to their barking at him through gates, glass doors, nor on walks. Promise does not seem to have a strong prey drive either; he was non-reactive to a bunny that walked pass him. However, he is quite suspicious of trash bins LOL.

Commands: Sit & shake. Working on “come,” “bed,” “bedtime,” “down.”
