Easy Cream Cheese Cinnamon Christmas Cookies are simply cookies to make. If you have never tried cream cheese cookies you are in for this treat. They are tender, slightly chewy and addictive.

Cream cheese is the key ingredient that makes these cookies so good. This is a classic sugar cookie recipe, but we are updating it by adding cream cheese which is going to make the cookies even more soft and delicious. If you are looking for new Christmas cookie to try, you need to give this recipe a shot!

How to make Cream Cheese Cookies:

  • First, In a large bowl or mixer, cream together butter and cream cheese until smooth, then slowly add powdered sugar and beat until creamy
  • Add egg, vanilla extract, baking powder and salt and mix until combined
  • Gradually add all-purpose flour until completely combined
  • Wrap dough in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for one hour, or until chilled. This cookie dough needs to chill, you don’t it stick to your hands more than it sticks to itself.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon, set aside
  • Use a tablespoon or ice cream scoop to scoop cookie dough and roll into a smooth ball between your palms and roll through sugar and cinnamon mixture until completely coated
  • Place on prepared cookie sheet about 2 inches apart
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, this is important and the key to a tender cream cheese cookie
  • Cookies may still seem very soft in the center when finished baking, it is hard to tell when these cookies are ready (they will puff up but won’t get golden brown)
  • Let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes and then transfer cookies to a wire rack to let cool completely

For even more of a spicy kick, add more cinnamon to the cream cheese cookie dough you can add this in at the same time as the flour.

FAQs

What is the secret to moist cookies? ›

Cornstarch helps product soft and thick cookies. Using more brown sugar than white sugar results in a moister, softer cookie. An extra egg yolk increases chewiness. Rolling the cookie dough balls to be tall and lumpy instead of wide and smooth gives the cookies a bakery-style textured thickness.

Do cream cheese cookies need to be refrigerated? ›

Do they need to be refrigerated? This type of cookie can be stored in a sealed container at room temperature for two days. Things with lots of cream cheese like cheesecakes and baked goods with cream cheese frosting should definitely be refrigerated.

Should I use baking soda or baking powder in cookies? ›

Baking soda is typically used for chewy cookies, while baking powder is generally used for light and airy cookies. Since baking powder is comprised of a number of ingredients (baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, etc.), using it instead of pure baking soda will affect the taste of your cookies.

How can I make my cookies fluffier instead of flat? ›

What happens if you don't refrigerate cookies before baking? ›

Does cream cheese expire? ›

Bread releases moisture into the air, while sugar (present in large quantities in cookies), absorbs moisture out of the air. Don't have any white bread? Use a slice of apple instead. Just slip a wedge in with your cookies, cover, and let sit overnight.

What ingredients keep cookies moist? ›

What adds moisture to cookie dough? ›

To avoid this, try using as little flour as possible while preparing to roll your dough.
