As far as holiday flavors go, eggnog is at the top of my list. It's up there right along with gingerbread and anything with cranberries!

I enjoy eggnog so much I like to come up with different eggnog-inspired recipes so I'm not just left drinking my 'nog. Muffins, pudding, and cookies are all fair game to be re-made into festive eggnog-flavored treats.

What Does Eggnog Taste Like?

Eggnog is a really unique flavor, and to me it says Christmas!

It tastes like a melted vanilla custard (egg-based ice cream) that's scented with nutmeg.

Eggnog Ingredients

Classic eggnog ingredients include:

  • Eggs
  • Cream
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Nutmeg is traditional, but some recipes also add cinnamon
  • A few recipes also use vanilla, which I love as an addition to eggnog

Does Eggnog Have Alcohol?

Eggnog itself doesn't have alcohol. However, it's common to add spirits to eggnog, such as rum, cognac, or brandy.

Easy Eggnog Latte Recipe (4)
  • Eggnog - Creamy, custardy, and nutmeg-scented, eggnog is the star of the show! You can make your own eggnog or use your favorite store-bought brand.
  • Strong coffee - You don't need espresso, but your coffee should be nice and strong for this latte.
  • Whipped cream - For topping our lattes!
  • Nutmeg - A sprinkle of freshly-grated nutmeg on top is optional, but makes this beverage feel special. Or you can use ground cinnamon if you prefer.

Pro Tip: Make the Coffee Strong

Easy Eggnog Latte Recipe (5)

Brew a pot of strong French press coffee. To get it strong, I use a regular amount of coffee and water, but I let the coffee steep for 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can use 2 shots of espresso + ¾ cup of hot water, or strong coffee brewed any way you like.

Eggnog Latte FAQs

What Can You Do With Eggnog?

  • Add a splash to your morning oatmeal (it would be fantastic on top of Carrot Cake Oatmeal)
  • Use it as the soaking liquid to make French toast
  • Swap out milk for eggnog in recipes for cake, muffins, waffles, and pancakes. Note that eggnog will also add sweetness, so you may want to scale back a little on the added sweetener
  • Make it into bread pudding (swap out half the milk in my Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding recipe for eggnog)
  • Combine eggnog and powdered sugar to make a glaze for cookies, cinnamon rolls, etc.
  • Enjoy a cold glass of 'nog with your favorite holiday cookies.

Faith's Tips

  • Strong Coffee: Instead of strong, hot brewed coffee, you can use 2 shots of espresso + ½ to ¾ cup hot water.
  • If You Have a Milk Steamer or Frother: If desired, instead of topping this with whipped cream, you can top it with steamed milk or frothed milk instead.
  • Nutmeg: Take a minute to freshly grate your nutmeg because it makes all the difference in terms of flavor! I recommend using a microplane to grate whole nutmeg. If you prefer, you can top your latte with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon instead.
