I’M KARA PETERS, WXII 12 NEWS. KARA THANK YOU. A BURLINGTON MAN IS FACING CHARGES ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING A WOMAN AND A CHILD. THE ALAMANCE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THAT IT WAS CALLED IN AFTER THE VICTIM WENT TO A REIDSVILLE HOSPITAL. SHE TOLD INVESTIGATORS A MAN SHE KNEW LATER IDENTIFIED AS TYSON GARNER BEGAN TO ASSAULT HER WHEN SHE WAS AT HIS HOUSE IN BURLINGTON. SHE ALSO SAID THAT WHEN HER CHILD TRIED TO STEP IN TO HELP, THE CHILD WAS ASSAULTED AS WELL. AUTHORITIES SAY GARNER WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY AND RELEASED ON BOND. THE PRESIDENT AND CEO OF BAPTIST CHILDREN’S HOME OF NORTH CAROLINA IS STEPPING DOWN. THE ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCED THE RESIGNATION, WHICH WENT INTO EFFECT IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DETAILS OF A FINANCIAL REVIEW. IN A STATEMENT POSTED ON ITS WEBSITE, OFFICIALS SAY THE INDEPENDENT REVIEW FOUND SEVERAL INSTANCES OF MISUSED FUNDS. IT SAYS THE CEO, MICHAEL BLACKWELL, HAS AGREED TO PAY BACK THE IDENTIFIED MONEY. TONIGHT, NORTH CAROLINA’S TOP HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE ASKING EVERYONE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM MOSQUITO BITES.
